It’s no secret we love La Vera, the hidden Spanish paradise that two of our team members call home. We’re not the only ones. The natural beauty, small-town familiarity, old-world heritage and respectful discretion also attracts young couples looking to start their life together, as well as famous celebrities hoping to enjoy private tranquility as local residents – rather than as international stars.
And for those “in the know” within La Vera, the Hotel Ruta Imperial has become something of an institution.
Over the last 10 years, Owner and Managing Director Luis Miguel Burcio, with his wife Mamen Macias, has made Ruta Imperial a delightful place to decompress from the rest of the world. Luis Miguel took everything he learned about exceptional attention to detail from his experience with the national Parador hotels and blended it with a modern and casual “mini-resort” style. The result is a lovely 17-room, 2 duplex, 1 luxury suite property that’s ensconced in nature, yet still very much a part of the local community.
Hotel Ruta Imperial hosts about 40 weddings each year plus many couples and families on get-aways from Madrid (about 140 miles east). In addition, local residents often stay to enjoy views across the hillside, the pool and nearby hiking trails, and great dinners at the hotel’s restaurant.
It’s also not uncommon to find Alejandro Sanz over in the bar area catching up with his old friend Luis Miguel. Because when he’s at the Ruta Imperial, Alejandro – like all guests – is simply a valued friend sharing a warm moment among friends.
Which is probably the most memorable characteristic of the hotel itself.
As they say, it all starts at the top. Having met Luis Miguel last January, the great experience visitors always have at Hotel Ruta Imperial comes as no surprise. Luis is always extraordinarily warm and welcoming, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit with him.
