This is a riveting expression of 100% Tempranillo: elegant and pure, it has the power and concentration of classic Ribera del Duero.
The owners of the winery Dominio de Atauta, Emma and Miguel Angel Sanchez, started Atalayas de Golban in 2004. Atalayas de Golban is located in Atauta in the province of Soria, in perhaps the coolest micro-climate of the Ribera del Duero. Soils differ dramatically from the main zone of Ribera del Duero, which is almost 70 miles downriver. With this wine, Atalayas aimed to make an affordable, but age-worthy wine that captures the unique personality provided by the district.
91 Points – Josh Reynolds, International Wine Cellar:
Ruby-red. High-pitched red fruit and floral aromas are complicated by notes of sassafras, star anise and botanical herbs, along with a hint of vanilla. Sweet, spicy, incisive raspberry and cherry flavors expand in the mid-palate and pick up a note of candied flowers. Blends richness and vivacity smoothly and finishes with a strong echo of sweet red fruit.
