This 100% Garnacha offers a lovely perfume of spice box, mineral, and wild cherry. This perfectly balanced mix of flavors lends itself to an intensely fruity wine with loads of taste, a smooth texture and a pure, fruit-filled finish.
Pairs well with white and red meats roasted or grilled, big game, meat casseroles and stews, complex sauces, foie gras and legumes or blue and cured cheeses.
Evodia is an exciting new project in the Calatayud wine area, hailed as one of Spain’s most progressive and promising wine growing regions. Calatayud is distinguished by its prevalence of high elevation vineyards planted to the Garnacha variety. It is here, in the vineyards of Atea, that Garnacha grapes are sourced for Evodia. In addition to the remarkable climate due to elevation, the property is comprised of pure schiste soils, known as pisara, which has an extraordinary influence on the wines.
90 Points – Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar:
Vivid purple. Powerful aromas of blueberry, blackberry, woodsmoke and Indian spices. Displays supple, open-knit flavors of smoky dark berries, bitter chocolate and candied flowers. Seductive right now, with a sweet floral pastille element carrying through a long, smoky, tannin-free finish. An amazing value.
88 Points – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate:
An Eric Solomon custom cuvee, the 2012 Evodia is 100% Grenache from a vineyard planted at more than 2,000 feet in pure decomposed slate soils. Some of the Grenache vines are over 100 years of age. The wine exhibits good density, plenty of richness, not the complexity or ethereal qualities of several of his other custom cuvees, but beautiful fruit, a luscious texture and a hedonistic mouthfeel as well as finish. Enjoy this remarkable value over the next 2-3 years.
