Following up on the outstanding 2004 harvest, the 2005 harvest was officially rated as “Excellent” by the DOCa Control Board (the official Denomination Certification board in Spain). The newly released Vina Ardanza Reserva 2005 is, once again, an exemplary bottle of great Rioja.
In fact, this past June the Wine Spectator awarded the 2005 Ardanza their “Smart Buy” rating.
The Vina Ardanza 2005 Reserva is 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha. It’s a complex wine that’s already showing many of the wonderful qualities everyone now expects from this classic Rioja. It has masses of dark fruit with measures of dried berries and cherries wrapped up in a silky smooth coat of herbs, spice, smoke and leather. The palate also lives up to the hype from the nose and its medium body is held together with fine ripe tannins.
The 2005 is a truly fantastic drinking experience that’s excellent now yet also has plenty of substance to last (and even improve) over the next 5-10 years, if you let it. Unquestionably, the 2005 is yet another superb vintage for this magnificent Rioja.
92 Points – Wine Spectator:
“Smart Buy”. This traditional red offers dried cherry, orange peel, tobacco and sanguine flavors in a silky texture, supported by light, firm tannins and balsamic acidity. Focused and fresh, with a juicy finish. Drink now.
