The original painting that normally graces the label of Corte Real Platinum proudly hangs in Viña Extremeña’s private art gallery. It’s a fitting label for this imperial wine, their premier brand. Over the years Corte Real Platinum has garnered no less than 45 awards throughout the world.
Normally you think of Rioja or Ribero del Duero when you think Spanish wine, but Viña Extremeña’s success (among others) has brought quite a bit of international attention to its native region of Extremadura. They regularly receive visits from foreign dignitaries and are often featured in state dinners at the Spanish Royal Palace. As one might expect, given the level acclaim that Corte Real enjoys.
But what you wouldn’t expect is Vina Extremena’s gracious and enduring support of U.S. Troops following the 9/11 attacks.
Leaving politics aside, they decided to make specially labeled, limited productions of Corte Real and arranged for special delivery to the actual troops deployed in the field. Over the course of Operation Enduring Freedom they delivered 8 different commemorative editions to specific missions.
They told us it was their way of reaching out on a personal, human level to the men and women on the front lines. Simply in the spirit of sharing a glass of wine with a friend who could probably really use one.
A very nice touch indeed.
